Whether you are a beginner or a master printer, you can make a print!  Why don't you take that class you've always wanted to take?  Make that bucket list dream come true with the BPC!  Our amazing member-artists teach classes in various print processes and provide open studio sessions for experienced and emerging printmakers.  We are the only community printmaking studio teaching YOU how to make original works of art in comfortable air conditioning!  Your new passion is only a class away!

Bandana For You Prints
Instructor: Stephen Joseph Wiggins

Sunday, June 7
1:30pm - 4:30pm

Cost: $75
Materials Fee: $10 for the relief block and $10 for the bandana    
Number of students maximum: 6

Description:
A specific focused class on printing onto bandanas. It is a workshop focusing solely
on learning how to print onto bandanas using an etching press. We will be using
Gamblin inks to print with color and as well using Drive By Black to print onto fabric.
You will carve with Speedball tools into a block with your own design. You will learn
how to ink it up and print one image as well as pattern printing and registration, using
black ink or multiple colors if you wish.

Students need to bring:
ideas, sketchbook

Instructor Bio
Stephen Wiggins is a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a BA in Art Studio.
He practices his work at the BPC when he is not working full time.  He focuses on relief
printmaking and his themes cover several different areas including spiritual, humor,
social commentary and faith.

Description:
If you have always wanted to make a t-shirt or to print on any fabric-based material
this is for you!  It is a workshop focusing solely on learning how to print onto t-shirts.
We will be using Gamblin inks to print with color and as well using drive by black to print onto fabric. Drive by black dries fast - at least one week.  You will carve with Speedball tools into a block with your own design. You will learn how to ink it up and print it onto a t-shirt using a printing press.
Deadline for registration is May 26th

Here Comes the Sun: Solar etching
Instructor: Carolynne Weber
Saturday, June 20, 11am-4pm
Cost: $100 ($80 members) materials included

Solar prints are made by creating images using sharpies and acrylic paint and transferring them to plates using a light source. Well etch the images and then learn how to ink, wipe, and print your image. Youll leave the class with an edition of your print and the know-how to come back and make more! Cost and materials fee: $100 ($80 for members)

Printmaking for Teachers

Description:
Printmaking for the classroom! Learn basic collagraph, monoprint and relief techniques to teach your students. Well make and print plates as well as develop resource materials and lesson plans. During the first three classes youll learn three printing techniques and during the fourth class we will finish our print samples, pull the information together and walk away with ready to use lessons. Hand printing and using a press will be part of the class too. Kindergarten through high school teachers welcome.

Instructor Bio:
Elizabeth is a printmaker and art educator. She earned a BFA in graphic design from
Washington University, an MFA in printmaking and an M.Ed in secondary art education from Ohio University. She has been showing work nationally for over twenty years and won Best of Kentucky at the AFB Woodland Art Fair in 2015.


Monotypes and Monoprints

Description: Monotypes and monoplates are a great introduction to printmaking and interesting to experienced printmakers. Monotypes can be stand-alone prints or components for mixed media and other applications. Students will work at their own pace as they experiment with a wide array of options. Water-based printmaking inks are applied to a monotype plate. Ink is transferred as the plate and damp paper are run through our hand-cranked press. The surprise reveals itself as the paper is
pulled from the plate.
Students need to bring: willingness to experiment, items that may make interesting textures in wet ink.

Thursday, June 4, 11, 18, 25

Number of students maximum: 6
Art and writing combined! Through writing prompts (Writing Down the Bones), students will write in a composition book during each class. We will explore monotype printmaking, a water-based medium that is very accessible. In the last class, students will cover the notebook with printmaking art they made in class. Students will leave with a decorated composition notebook containing personal writing and extra prints.
Students need to bring: willingness to experiment, items that may make interesting textures in wet ink, writing pens.

Registration deadline noted for each class. Refunds for withdrawals will be made until this date, minus a 50% registration fee; refunds on classes will not be made after this date. Payment is completely refundable if due to class cancellation. The class fee includes materials.

The BPC is located in the basement of ArtsPlace on Mill Street. There are pay lots on either side of ArtsPlace on Mill Street and there is street parking on Church, Second and Market. Metered spaces are free after 5:00pm and on weekends.

Open Studio
Monday and Saturdays 10am-2pm
$8 per hour
Curious about printmaking? Work side by side with BPC members who will be working in a specific printing technique. Work at your own pace and we will share tricks of the trade. We provide the press and inks. You bring plates and paper.
