Woodcut Printmaking Class and Press Building with Stephen Wiggins

 

 

Participants in this learnshop will be able to use carving tools to carve an image onto a piece of 5 x7 1/4 inch MDF. The print will be larger on paper to the size of 6 x 9. They will learn how to transfer a drawing onto the block, carve the block, ink the block and print the block. They will then learn how to print the image onto paper, onto a card and then onto a t-shirt. We will use black ink to print a one color image. The participants will receive a piece of newsprint to transport the images created and then take the images home to hang dry. Participants will also learn how to build their own press to be able to print at home. 

Wear clothes you won’t mind getting dirty. Bring a sketchbook with ideas, a t-shirt you want to print onto (optional), and a folder or binder.

TAKE HOME The block carved in class (5 x 7 image) and at least one print on 6 x 9 inch paper, one print on a 5 x 7 inch card, and one print on a tee-shirt (which they provide) with the possibility of additional prints onto paper. The participants will receive a piece of newsprint to transport the images created and then take the images home to hang dry.
